Henry Hewes

Henry Hewes was born in 1949 at Columbia Presbyterian hospital in New York City. Mr. Hewes is the son of the late Saturday Review and Literature Drama critic Henry Hewes and his wife Jane Hewes. He is married, and has three boys and lives in New York City.
Mr. Hewes attended school at the Church of the Heavenly Rest,the Dalton School, Phillips Andover Academy, and the Riverdale Country School. He attended Boston University and obtained a Bachelors Degrees in Political Science and Finance from State University of New York . He was a Hubert Humphrey Fellow at Hunter College and obtained a Masters Degree in Urban Planning. As a student he headed up students for Rockefeller in Massachusetts in 1968, as well as the students for Nixon /Agnew in Massachusetts.
While in Boston he was the publisher of the Boston Express. While still a grad student in the Hunter Graduate program, Mr. Hewes was elected to the Board of the American Institute of Planners. Mr. Hewes was also elected to represent graduate students in the University Student Senate and was elected to serve as Vice-Chair of that entity. As Vice- Chair of the Student Senate, he served on several committees of the CUNY Board of Trustees.
Mr. Hewes also served as a Trustee of the City Club of New York.
From 1971-1975, Mr. Hewes was the publisher of the Reston Citizen and from 1976-1980, he was Real Estate Manager for the New York CityDepartment of Ports and Terminals.
In 1981 Henry Hewes and Jeffery Stern created the Nationally known Economic Development Consulting firm of Stern & Hewes. This firm worked for the Federal Government and acted as a consultant to a number of states and cities.
In the early 1980`s Mr. Hewes began organizing real estate ventures. Over a 30 year period he completed 37 buildings containing over 2000 units of low income and affordable housing . His ventures have also included hotels, post office facilities, commercial projects, Charter Schools, Head Start facilities and Schools for Autistic children.
Internationally Mr. Hewes has been involved in commercial and residential projects in Ecuador, Panama , Dominican Republic, Poland and Ireland. As a technology Investor, Mr. Hewes helped create Sonar Cloud, Self-Made TV, and Web Asset Partners.
In Ecuador Mr. Hewes worked through the U.S.-Ecuador Development Corp, which developed five residential projects that have a total of 3000 residential units and commercial centers. The best known of these centers is the Satellite City of L.A., in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Outside of his business and technology affairs, Mr. Hewes is also active in a variety of charitable and political entities locally and on the national level.
Among the many civic organizations on which Mr. Hewes has served on the Boards of The Dalton School , The City Club of New York, The American Planning Association, The Municipal Planning Association, the MYATC, the GOP Pro-Life Caucus and the Hewes Foundation. He was also the publisher of the Washington Chronicle.
Mr. Hewes was a candidate for Mayor of New York City in 1989, in a race against Rudolph Giuliani and David Dinkins. Mr. Hewes ran for United States Senate for the State of New York in 1994, in a race against Patrick Moynihan.
Mr. Hewes served as Director of Pat Robertson`s Presidental campaign in the North East Region in 1988, and Director of the Presidential campaign of Pat Buchanan in New York State in 2000. He was also the Vice- Chairman of the Presidential campaign in New York State for George Bush in 1988.
Mr. Hewes was a senior advisor to the Right to Life party and a prominent Pro-Life activist between 1988 and 2004.
Mr. Hewes changed his political affiliation from Republican to Democrat in 2007, based on his opposition to the Iraq war and drone warfare.
In the same year Mr. Hewes ran for President of the United States against Hilary Clinton, Barack Obama and Joe Biden in the Democratic Primaries as a Pro-Life Democrat.
Mr. Hewes is active in efforts to oppose the death penalty, abortion and the IRS. Mr. Hewes is also an advocate of Charter Schools, home schooling, replacing Income Tax with VAT, refinancing of student loans and staying out of Syria.
